Scarlet Guard Inn 2017- Post event aftermath!

THL Cynwulf Rendell

Greetings to the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael from your Captain of Archers, Cynwulf Rendell. The Barony should be proud of the Hael Hounds and their excellent efforts at the Scarlet Guard Inn Archery Festival! The Hael had sixteen Hael Hounds, two future Hounds and five Friends of the Hounds at this event!

On Friday evening, Lady Feya started out being the top female shooter using a modern era bow, in the Flight Shoot achieving 165 yards distance.  Hael Yeah! In the Scarlet Guard Challenge, representing the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael, was Lady Thalia and Lord Chebe of the Canton of Beau Fleuve, proudly shooting. As with everything else in life, another archer prevailed. We all should be proud of the effort put forth!

In the Kingdom of Aethelmearc Archery Championship ,the Hael Hounds had three participating in the finals, Lady SiobhanLady Thalia, and Lord Theodoric. Two Friends of the Hael Hounds also made the finals, Baron Edward and Lord Snorri. When all the shooting was said and done, another archer prevailed. These archers should be applauded!

Kingdom Champion Shoot!

In court, the Hounds showed their skills and efforts by being called for recognition. Lady Feya was called for her Flight Shoot achievement. THL Milheim was called for his great shot, shooting a two inch bird target at 29 yards on his first shot wit his crossbow. (Note, no actual living bird was damaged during this shoot). Lord Mikus was called up for his great shot, placing an arrow exactly between the eyes of a dragon target, (Note, no actual living dragon was damaged during this shoot). One of the Friends of the Hounds, Lord Martin Lewis was called up as a winner of his range. One the great highlights of court was watching an AOA being awarded to Thalia and Chebe for at least one part of their efforts in Hael Archery. Vivant to Lady Thalia and Lord Chebe!

It should be noted that  Hael Hounds Lady Siobhan, Lady Simmonetta, Lord Chebe and the Friends of the Hael Hounds, Baron Edward, Baroness Anastasie, and Lord Snorri fulfilled their duties as Queen's Guards. In addition to duties, Lady Siobhan, Lady Simmonetta , Lord Robert L'Etourdi and I (Cynwulf Rendell), worked bow inspection for the event. These three individuals made great strides on becoming archery marshals.

After court, it was time to eat and celebrate the day. Our illustrious Baron Magnus, with help, went on a pizza run while the Friends of the Hounds, Baron Edward and Baroness Anastasie BBQ'ed  fourteen lbs of ribs to feed the hounds and cooked additional items too numerous to remember! Thank you and a great Howl to these two!

Lady Simmonetta, Baroness Miriel, Lady Feya and Lord Snorri led the group in relaxing and funny songs. Also, some good stories and some bad jokes were told! Scarlet Guard Inn hit the mark and all went home happy and proud.

The Arts & Sciences are in good hands again!

Her Excellency and I have selected a new Arts & Sciences Champion! The setting for the contest was the Cooks Collegium held in the Barony on June 24th. There was a small (but impressive) display of projects that focused heavily on the scribal arts. Her Excellency and I spoke to each entrant about their work and their plans if they became our champion, and after a short deliberation, determined a winner. We are pleased to announce that THL Eleanore Godwin is our new Baronial A&S Champion. Eleanore's work and display was above and beyond, and her plans for Seven Pearls is....well that is a Secret for now. In an Ironic twist of fate Her Ladyship was also assigned to create the scroll that we would ultimately award our new A&S champion. Her Excellency and I offered to have another scroll made for her, but Eleanore was pleased to finally have some of her own work to keep and display. We agree she deserves it. Her Excellency and I would also like to thank our outgoing A&S champion Lord Wolfgang Starcke. Wolfgang thank you for your service as our Champion and your continuing dedication to the Barony and the Kingdom. Shown below is a selection of the work Eleanore displayed at the contest.

The Hael welcomes a new Heavy Weapons Champion!

On Wednesday June 7th the Barony of the Rhydderich Hael gathered to determine a new Heavy weapons Champion. 10 fighters entered the list, with 6 competing to be the new champion. The tournament was round-robin with each fighter fighting each other fighter once. The fighter with the most overall wins was named the “open tournament winner”, and then the two champion contenders with the highest number of wins fought a best of five bout to determine the Baronial Champion.

The tournament was a great display of skill and determination, including skill levels ranging from veterans to fighters entering their first tournament. The final match for Baronial champion came down to Lord Wolfgang Starcke facing off against Lord Tadhg Mag Uidhir. The fight was a nail-bitter all the way to the end, but when the final blow was struck it was Lord Tadhg Mag Uidhir who won the day! The open tournament winner was Duke Sir Maynard who fought each of the fighters in a row before taking off his helm to marshal the remainder of the tournament.

Thank you to Duke Sir Maynard von dem Steine for his service as our previous champion and for running a successful tourney to find our new champ. Thanks to all the fighters who came out to fill our list, and last but not least thanks to Lady Brigette de Sainte Mere-Église for serving as our MOL for the day.

Additionally Her Excellency and I took time to pass on the “Most Improved fighter” award. This was no small task given the honor and skill we witnessed during the tournament, but in the end Her Excellency and I picked THL Jairus of the Darklands to carry the dagger. The dagger is typically awarded to the most improved fighter, but in this case (and given the skill of His Lordship) we awarded this to him for the inspiration he provides, representing the Barony and Kingdom on the field, passing his knowledge to others, and setting an example of courtesy and Chivalry.

Thank you again to everyone who came out, and of course…Hael Yeah!

Arts and Sciences Baronial Championship

A call to our great Artisans of the Rhydderich Hael, it has come time to choose our next Champion to represent us to the Kingdom and the Society. Who will show off their outstanding skills at the Cooks Collegium on June 24th at Wrights Corners Fire Company, 4043 Lake Avenue, Lockport NY 14094?

Outgoing Baronial Champion Wolfgang Starke has asked for the competing artisans to display their A&S for everyone to see all day in an area set up for them at the site. At 2pm His excellency and I will spend time with the artisans as they explain their display. So make some plans to put on a wonderful show or spectacular display, we are excited to see what you have to offer.
